Access your work computer from home
Use Deskbat to reach an awake, online Windows office PC from another supported device. Prepare unattended access and test your setup before you leave.
Your work may depend on an application or files kept on an office computer. A remote session lets you operate that Windows PC from elsewhere. The application runs on the office computer while your viewing device displays its screen and sends your input.
Get approval from whoever manages the computer before setting up access. Deskbat still requires an authorized connection, and a locked Windows computer still requires normal Windows sign-in.
Prepare before leaving the office
- Install and verify. Install the current Deskbat Windows app, sign in to the intended workspace and check the computer’s ID and readiness.
- Set up access while nobody is there. Configure a unique unattended-access password. This is separate from your Deskbat account password and Windows sign-in.
- Check power and connectivity. Keep the PC connected to the internet and awake for the period you need. Follow your organization’s power policy; closing a laptop lid can put it to sleep.
- Try the whole journey. Connect from your viewing device, open a work application, then test again with Windows locked. Confirm both the screen and input work before relying on access from home.
Locked, screen off or asleep?
These are different states. Locking Windows can leave the computer available for configured unattended access. A monitor turning off can also leave the PC awake. Sleep, hibernation or shutdown may make the computer unreachable.
Deskbat does not guarantee waking a sleeping or shut-down PC. Use the power and availability guide to prepare the host, and check that sharing has not been paused. If someone needs to approve the connection locally, arrange for them to be at the computer.
Connect from home
Open Deskbat on your viewing device and sign in. Select the office computer in your workspace or enter its Deskbat ID. Use its unattended-access password when nobody is there to approve. Once the remote screen appears, complete Windows sign-in if requested.
The Windows app is available to download. iPhone and iPad access is available through the invited TestFlight beta; see availability and setup. macOS is coming soon. My Deskbat manages your workspace; it is not a browser-based remote-screen viewer.
Make everyday work comfortable
Start with a clear view of the whole desktop, then adjust quality or zoom for the task. Reading small text and moving quickly through a busy screen can need different settings. If text is blurred or typing is delayed, check both the home connection and the office PC’s connection using the picture-quality and responsiveness guide.
When finished, save your work, lock Windows if appropriate and end the Deskbat session. Ending one session stops that connection. Pausing sharing on the office PC also prevents future incoming access, so use it when that is your intention.
If you cannot connect
Read the availability message first. An offline or sleeping computer, paused sharing and a failed password attempt call for different actions. Record the exact message and diagnostic reference before contacting support. Keep account, unattended-access and Windows passwords out of support messages.
